@mightymoe

I like that!

This corner was marked with 3 pieces of rebar, of unknown origin and REHABILITATED with 1 rebar with a yellow cap marked XYZ 12345.

I've found rebar before, missing their cap and set mine on it and noted same on my survey...

@dmyhill

You are absolutely correct.  We must base our own work on the work performed by those who preceded us.  Trying to eliminate access to our work in the future is pure selfishness and stupid, in my opinion.

I have rehabilitated corners and quite frankly I am beside myself with many other surveyors who so blithely disregard their duty, what they are specifically licensed for. They become what I like to call Joe Friday surveyors, they will leave multiple corner pins in place and not solve the bloody problem and "just show the facts" and with a flip of their hand tell the landowner they will have to get a lawyer to figure it out so maybe we should take the surveyors license and give it to the lawyer.

Did I tell you about the time I dug up a corner and there were 2 rebars and caps, and the client was standing right there? The client was an elderly widow, and I explained how sometimes this might happen. We walk over to the other side of her lot and when I dig that 1 up; she asks why there isn't 2 here? It was hard to keep from laughing...

Very simple.?ÿ You were surveying Lot 6 and found the extra bar along the common border with Lot 7.?ÿ Then you went to the common border with Lot 5 and found only one bar.?ÿ No one had retraced Lot 5 but someone had retraced Lot 7.?ÿ It was probably the same surveyor signing off on both bars but using different field crews.

@dougie

When I was a young surveyor, I got sent out on the surveying version of a snipe hunt.

An elderly women requested a survey for a common line with her neighbor to the east, I saw a pin at the front of the fence at the street an old unmarked rebar, so I checked block corners and then headed to the back pins of which there were two pins marking her NE corner. One rebar and one plastic cap, these pins touched, clearly the plastic cap was there to reinforce the position of the rebar. The fence was as online as a chain link fence could be.

I told the women that all the pins were there and fit the block, she didn't like my answer and went into a long speech about her neighbor who slept with her husband and had these surveys done which were wrong, ect………...

The neighbor came out mowing the lawn and the client got a broom and tried to sitck the handle under the mower through the fence when it got close, they started yelling at each other. It was my time to disappear.

Got back to the office and my two bosses were waiting for me laughing. Seems the two women go to surveyors around town fighting over that line.
