Any of you California surveyors notice this in your elevations?
I hope the link works.

Hey Greg,
I've been reading about this method of determining snowpack. The concept makes sense, I just have a difficult time believing that the GNSS receivers are precise enough to determine 0.16 inch. I readily confess that I am not a geophysicist, though.
Earth's crust rising AND falling
Interesting that they refer to uplift. I would think that the stresses on the aquifers would more dramatically lead to subsidence. Many of the NGS height modernization presentations show survey monuments protruding above the surface after surface has subsided due to dewatering and consolidation of subsurface soils.
It is always interesting working in California due to tectonic activity etc.
BTW, here is the famous photo of eminent USGS geologist Dr Joseph Poland in the San Joaquin Valley illustrating the impact of subsurface water withdrawal.

Yea, I was a little skeptical of their precision with GPS also, but I didn't know if the elevation change was noticeable or not, but then I guess things out there are prone to shifting anyway being so near a fault line.
Those Scripps guys are smart cookies.
I am a geophysicist and I visited Scripps while in San Diego at Geophysical conference while I was in grad school. Scripps is regarded as one of the premier institutions for Geophysical stuff. I know I was no where near smart enough to go there LOL
I'm always suspect of these scientific studies by academic beard scratchers.
I believe the the grunt work is probably done by eager to please grad students who have not really developed the experience and common sense to analyze the data they collect with the computer skills they have available.
Sounds like someone is looking for Federal grant money to support them while they goof off for a few years.
Pretty much without exception, the academic elites I've had to deal with have been educated idiots.
Anyone remember Professor Irwin Cory? That's the model.

Extrapolating all this info from 0.16 of an inch change in GPS elevation data?
You must be kidding.
I learned my lesson in the 1970's when they were all screaming about the coming Ice Age.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.
PS
Another lesson for me was the 1976 "Palmdale Bulge" (an area N'y of Los Angeles)
Imminent massive eathquake for LA right?.
I was on a Precise Level crew for LA County Engineers when that was investigated.
