In this excellent article:

America Has Two Feet. Itƒ??s About to Lose One of Them.?ÿhttps://nyti.ms/2Q1p8H7&source=gmail&ust=1597865708816000&usg=AFQjCNGCydi1Qm9bJRo-GL5vW81eFDCWj w"> https://nyti.ms/2Q1p8H7

Dr. Dennis knocks it out of the park, again.

And he manages to do it while looking cool!

It seems he and/or the author chose to minimize the discussion of metric and how we shouldn't even be using a foot, but rather the meter for every length.

It's a political reality the foot is here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. You can't fault NGS for the emotional attachments of the American public..

The foot is superior to the meter.

I might be wrong. Mr. Dennis killed the US Survey foot for future use. But he history of the US Survey foot will live in every project it was used on. The foot used on US Survey foot projects would be like using yards for chains and rods, or veras. I just don't see it that clean cut.

Okay please correct me where/if I am wrong.

Why is Dennis a rock star? He picked one unit of measurement over another and has influence to persuade others

NGS is simply not going to be reporting US survey Foot. The use of US survey foot will continue as its mandated by state law. So unless changed you are still going to use it.

Is the Federal government passing a law that says US survey foot not to be used and International adopted? What about state rights?

I think the US survey foot is here to stay for a long time

@james-vianna Things are to vague to say your wrong, but your position about states rights is dubious. The states agreed to the constitution. Section 8 of the Constitution begins "The Congress shall have Power To...." It goes on to say "To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;"

I argue that Congress has assigned, at least to some degree, the authority to establish standards of weights and measures to NIST. If NIST declines to offer a standard for the US survey foot, state legislators, governors, and courts lack the power to establish it themselves.
