Hello everyone.
I just bought a survey pro card and ram card for my HP48GX. I haven't used an HP48 for data collection in years. My computer has windows 7 and I don't believe it has a 9 pin port although I might have a 9 pin to USB adapter somewhere.
Can someone tell me what cables/programs I need to connect the collector to my computer (and where to get them)?
Thanks,
Gregg
Send me an email, and I will be glad to send you a link to the old TFR program that I used to download the HP48's back in the 90's.
I have a copy of the old TDS TFR program. Getting it to work reliably on a Windows 7 environment is an issue because of the port 1 or port 2 condition.
You need a USB to 9 pin adaptor and a null-modem cable.
If you do not have a program such as TDS or SMI, you can download directly from an HP48 in Carlson Survey using Kermit. Under "Tools" pulldown, "Data Collectors".
I have always used SMI and bring the ascii file into Carlson, but I just downloaded in Carlson using the above and it took my most recent file which was open in the 48 and directly put it into a crd file.
I am running Win 7 Home Premium.
OOPS, I forgot to add I use an SMI case (TDS case also works) that changes the 4 pin 48 connector to 9 pin. The were 4 pin to 9 pin cables available for years on ebay.

Jimmy,
Email sent.
Vern,
Can you go into more detail on the issue? I guess I can use my old XP computer if needed.
Does anyone know where I can find a download cable? If I remember right the cable was 9 pin on one end and the other end plugged into the collector cable that hooked to our Topcon instruments. I have a 9 pin to 9 pin. Can I use that to connect the collector to the computer?
Thanks everyone,
Gregg
Carlson Survey will connect and download the TDS points on a HP48
Thanks for the help everyone. I have an smi case and I forgot that I had the survey link in cad. The card will be in next week so I may have more questions then.
