Does a surveyor "owe" anything to their community?

Absolutely.?ÿ Not only as Professional Land Surveyors, but even just as citizens.?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿHowever, I do feel that we are a unique bunch of professional that are expert problem solvers.?ÿ ?ÿTherefore we do owe a duty to volunteer, mentor, run for local office, or any other position that we can contribute "back."?ÿ ?ÿI have volunteered for various boards in my town, such as, finance committee (chair for two years), building needs committee, capital planning, and currently serve as President of the Chamber of Commerce.?ÿ ?ÿI also volunteer as a mediator at our local District Court.

I truly believe that we need to volunteer and assume our positions as leaders, or workers....?ÿ

Your clients pay you for a product that is built around the laws and regulations in your state.

Your job as a professional is to protect the public even if that decision doesn't make your client happy.
