It Should Read A Grid Distance Of 4500.00 Feet

About 10 years ago I had an impromptu roadside meeting with a City Motorcycle Traffic Officer. I failed to notice a regulatory sign and had inadvertently disobeyed it. I complained about something (obvious missing delineators which would be more effective) he replied simply,

"THE SIGN, SIR, THE SIGN!"
(luckily he didn't show up to the trial so the matter was dismissed).

I offer, "THE TOWER, LPL, THE TOWER!"

It's interesting reading all these responses. As someone stated the original question I had was in regards to the description of a circle easement. I didn't go into extreme detail regarding this job because I only needed advice with the description but I appreciate all the extra input. Just to settle some people's questions about the monumentation and shape of the easement I'll tell you all more about this job--but again I was only curious about the legal description. This is not an antenna or traditional tower. It is a VORTAC facility operated by the FAA. The easement is a restricted aerial easement and has nothing to do with the ground so that's one reason that I'm not concerned with any monumentation. The other reason is that the surrounding land is farmed and any traditional monument wouldn't last very long. The easement will be very easily resurveyed by finding the center of this tower which is only about 40 feet tall and cone-shaped. There are no chain link fences nor any guy wires to account for. Hopefully this information will settle some of the questions being asked.

What I ended up doing is tieing the easement to the section with a POC and then going to one of the facility's lease property corners. From there I gave a bearing and distance to the "center point of said 500 foot diameter restricted aerial easement, said point coinciding with the center of an existing VORTAC tower facility operated by the United States Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration...yada yada yada...". There's more to it but I won't bore you. I think I've satisfied all the parties involved and any surveyor that follows shouldn't have any problems recreating it if that's ever necessary. Thanks again for all the input.

So, the tower at the center of the easement is something that looks like this?

What a great reflectorless EDM target!

Yes, it's very similar. Three or four shots around the rim of the cone and you can derive the center as good as anyone.

I thought that was a group of Moon People bowing before The Great and Powerful LEM.

VOR=VHF Omni Range which is civilian. TAC=Tacan which is military.

They usually look like a hat, from the air anyway.

Omni because you can select a course all around the circle into or out of the VOR. If you don't know where you are relative to the VOR you can turn the dial until the needle centers and there is a from or to flag.

The two instruments on the left are VOR indicators. They also have the horizontal needle for the ILS which is a different system.

Range because that is what its predecessor was called.
