Might as well visit at least one DC boundary stone. This one is nearby:

DC encompassed part of Northern Virginia until the 1840s.
Dang! Must be a tough neighborhood when you have to jail your monuments.
It is in the parking lot of a very nice looking 1st Baptist Church.
I can see the letter "E" but no other marks except for a big dimple on the top.

How long are you going to be in Alexandria?
If you have time try and get down to Murphy's at 713 King Street and try the Mooney's Irish Stout
Union Street Public House is a good place too
DC Boundary
If you look closely at a map of the DC area, Arlington County was the Virginia portion of the ten mile by ten mile square that was supposed to be the District of Columbia.
There were several rulings (i.e., no Federal buildings allowed west of the Potomac, no congressional representation and other issues) that caused friction, so that part of the District was given back to VA before the Civil War.

I fly out on Saturday morning.
I will get down there and do that, Mooney's Irish Stout.

I worked about three blocks from Murphy's when I was in politics before I started surveying. I spent at least three nights a week in that joint from 1985 to 1988.

Pizza recommendation (what else?) in DC:
Matchbox. There's one near Chinatown/Verizon Center, and another near the Marine barracks. They serve more than pizza, too.
Also, if you are in the Alexandria area, Campbell Avenue in Shirlington has a bunch of good restaurants, including a pub on one end of the street and a microbrewery on the other. Poets and Busboys on a side street has an interesting menu.
