Working on a proposal for a VA hospital where Davis-Bacon wages are required. However, I cannot seem to find a category for Land Surveyors. I have worked on these types of projects years ago and thought I had found prevailing wages for Surveyors. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

If the archives at RPLS.com were up, I'd tell you to search there as it has been discussed before. If I remember right, Mike Falk and the boys from Cali had a pretty good handle on it. Until that discussion, I'd never heard of it before.

How would you like to be a Chainman in King County, after the 15th of November?

You'll have to select King County, Surveyor and change the date.

Look at the difference between today and the 15th......:-P

What State Or Area ?

First call would be to the local Carpenter's Union and then maybe the Operating Engineers. Prevailing wage is more than an hourly rate, but also includes benefits. To meet the requirements however you can roll it all into your hourly payout to your non-union employees.

As I recall whenever we bid on a prevailing wage job that information was in the RFP.

If you are a licensed professional sole proprietor with no employees you can avoid paying yourself the prevailing wage, but why?

Two years ago a SE PA rep for the Carpenters Union saw me surveying and stopped. He filled me in on a few things and I laughed and explained who my boss was but I would love to work if he could find me a steady union job. We had a very pleasant conversation including my almost being a Operating Engineer many years before. Bidding on a prevailing wage project sort of levels the playing field. I have been involved with a good number of nonunion survey work on prevailing wage with union and non union contractors. Because the survey work is a minimal part of the job the union guys seldom harass the surveyors. But watch out if they find out that your crew is getting stiffed on what is due them.

That would be a decent paying job. I can't get that now. Maybe I should throw away my license and start over.

That is the wage accounting for overhead, benefits etc.
Actually it is quite low for those numbers.
COE rates were higher than that here 10 years ago.

Did you look at the other counties? Take a look at Ferry or Adams, just to name a couple, and let me know how much of that is overhead.....

There is a meeting of concerned surveyors/people on the 10th. Let me know if you'd like to go and I'll get you the info.

Davis-Bacon wages usually don't apply to surveyors.

That said, the statement of work may call for Service Contract Act (SCA) wage rates.
SCA does have wage rates for Survey Personnel (PC, Instrument Operator, Aide). There is also benefit amounts to add to the listed rates.

SCA rates can also be found at http://www.wdol.gov/

Unless I am mistaken, it does apply on construction contracts.
