A sad day for surveyors...I attended Dave Doyle's retirement lunch yesterday at NOAA in Silver Spring. Many people there, some good stories, lots of reminiscing. Forgot my camera, so I don't have any pics to post.

Good luck to Dave in his retirement! And Renee Shields as well, who retired /2/13.

I flew down in a Cessna 182. Mild tailwind going down, so I made it down in about 70 minutes from Pittsburgh. Going back home there was the strongest headwind I have flown in for a long time, about 70 knots at times. Airspeed was 120, ground speed was 50 or less for a lot of the trip. 2.5 hours to get back. One guy reported 100 knot headwinds higher up. The controller was making fun of me, told the guy I was in his sector for 2 hours and only went 20 miles! Fairly smooth though, until landing.

Had my daughter and niece with me, they went to the museums.

I wish Dave well!

Must of been strange to look down and see the cars passing you up.

Good time was had by all. About 150 people in attendance and a high percentage were not NGS types. And they were webcasting the event so its hard to say how many were in remote attendance.

Years ago, there was a big fall off in the quality of presentations given at State Conferences between Dave and other NOAA/NGS presenters. In the past couple of years, some of the NGS presenters appearing "on the circuit" have upped their game quite nicely.

Nevertheless, Dave will certainly be missed.

(Although he can be seen presenting two sessions at the NJ Conference, Feb 6 to 8 in Atlantic City.)

In October 2012, Dave

presented a seminar to the TSPS and while there he said that the first and last seminars he would ever present as an employee of the NGS were for the TSPS. I'd call that closure.

Good guy and a very good seminar.
