I have to record a plan to correct an error of the lot boundary shown on a series of plans I produced a few years ago. What else, if anything, should be done to "fix" this? Record a certificate with the plan? Sacrifice a goat to the survey gods?

If the plan with the error was referenced in a deed, around here you wound need to have a confirmatory deed recorded to bring the corrected plan into the chain of title.
Ask the Register to make a marginal note to the previously recorded plan, and carry a note on yours that states "This plan voids, vacates, and superceeds the plan recorded at..."
or, just do a correction certificate through the register.

Correction certificate recorded in a Deed Book, have the registrar reference in the 3.5" square reserved for such purposes.
We just had to do one on an old taking plan. Someone turned off the annotation layer on one sheet before plotting and it was missed. Every so often we get a call from a surveyor looking for the annotation which we happily provide, now they can go to a document. It was completed before my time, so I am off the hook for that one!
Another Mass. surveyor kindly provided an example to me of such a certificate that was recently recorded with an amended plan.
Thank you all for the suggestions.
