I recently had someone ask me about Corpscon and Geoid12B. You can configure Corpscon to use the g2012bu(x).bin files downloaded from NGS on the Corpscon Setup screen's Geoid tab. The instructions are attached to this notice.
I have been promising to complete version 7.0 but because of other responsibilities and an aging computer, that keeps getting put on the back burner. The existing beta version even has VDatum incorporated, but I was unable to add in the Geocon tools because of my old machine and compiler. I will begin to work on the next version when I receive a new 64bit computer and software. Sorry - no estimate of when that will be.
Best regards,
Mark
Thanks for the GEOID12B instructions, Mark. And thanks also for producing such a useful application! I only wish it were formally supported by your agency (and/or some other) so that the surveying community could count on it being maintained over the long haul.
Thanks.
Mar

Mark,
Who do we need to lobby to get you a new computer?
If you are someone with influence over Corpscon, are you aware of the problem in version 6 with elevation factor and combined factor, such that they are correct if and only if the output elevation is chosen to be NAVD88 ?
See late in this thread.

Thanks for the update. Looking at the NGS page, your instructions don't seem to match what's available on the website. I assume I am looking for data downloads but whatever form of compressed file I am pulling down (assuming Grid #0 for the CONUS) is not something I can open.
Has anyone had success in updating their Corpscon with the Geoid12B?

I think so - the g2012bu5.bin file shows in the "Custom Geiod Data Set" window. Haven't actually converted anything yet - maybe next week...
Jim F.,
I think that the NGS toolbox in the future will do a great job and should even replace Corpscon at some point. They have been working on a beta conversion utility but they have more to do. I wish that I could take credit for Corpscon but it was developed by some friends of mine. I try to spend as much time with them as possible hoping that some if their brain power would rub off on me. Hasn't worked yet!
The beta Geodetic Toolkit is available at: http://beta.ngs.noaa.gov/gtkweb/
it is a great start.
Bill,
Yes we are aware of the problem computing a CSF and i try to remind folks about that as much as possible. i am hoping to include an article on the issue in our next newsletter. I'll post that article here as well. Thanks for bringing that up and pointing me to the appropriate thread.. If you need the CSF, you can use version 5. Sorry, that is the best that i can do right now.
Andy,
Grab the files from the le* binary column here: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/GEOID/GEOID12B/GEOID12B_CONUS.shtml
Save them to your Corpscon's Geoid directory.
If you guys think that a YouTube video on setting up Geoid12b is necessary, I'll try to get one out soon.
