I've tried now a few different ways to get this data into XML. First, using Foresight DXM and loading the JOB, I attempted File>Export>LandXML. I select the points, and complete the export process. Result: the coordinates of the points are contained within the XML file, but the raw observations to these points are not there. Could you elaborate on what you are suggesting, please?
How about opening the job on your data collector and export as landxml, see if the files are different and contain the data. LandXML has the capability to contain raw and reduced survey observations. Whether or not Spectra Precision included this functionality is unknown. My guess is that 4.8.5 if Survey Pro is newer than whatever version of the office software you are using.

On a side note, your plight is why I have the ability to have alphanumeric numbers turned off in all of my data collectors and in Carlson. I get an error message for them. If you don't have ALL that many, you could just use the editor and replace them with the next available sideshot number manually. If you have more than 20, five clicks of the mouse will remedy it. Then in Carlson, you can replace them with other numbers with about 5 more clicks. 🙂
We learned this the hard way also. 🙂
Joe,
As far as I can tell, XML files created using either a data collector running Survey Pro 4.8.5 or using TDS Foresight DXM in the office, may contain polylines, parcels, alignments, and points, but the points only include the coordinates, not the raw observations used to create the coordinates. I tried it both ways and the options are virtually identical. Looks like TDS did not take advantage of all the capabilities of the XML format.
There may be other reasons to move to an XML based exchange but it looks like it won't be because of improved abilities to work with raw observation data.
No you can't just change the file extension. 1. Open Carlson. 2. Open Carlson's raw file editor. 3. Click File then click Import then pick on the TDS (RAW) option. 4. Import your .raw file 5. Click File then click Save As .rw5 6. Name your file and save it.
Sorry for the wild goose chase.
No problem at all. It was a good suggestion.

Yes you can just change the file extension, 1. Open Carlson. 2. Open Carlson's raw file editor. 3. Open the *rw5 file that you just renamed. 4. Edit that raw data file. 5. Process your file.
It is that easy.

I second copying and changing the extension. The original raw file is saved in it's original form and date for bungles editing.

Big Al:
If you want to you can send me a copy of your RAW file and a brief description of your survey and I can probably help. I have lot's of experience bringing in survey data for processing with SurvNet.

Donnie,
I just sent you an email with copies of my RAW data. I appreciate the offer.

For those who might be interested, a representative of Spectra Precision contacted me this evening and confirmed that Survey Link "Version 7.5.5 was the last version of Survey Link released."
