Hi guys!

I wonder if there exists such a Civil 3D based data collection system. As far as I know, there are AutoCAD based data collection packages developed not only by US based developers but also by Canada and Europe based companies. Leica produces MobileMatrix which utilizes ArcGIS as its engine.

Is there any development in Civil 3D platform?

Thank you.

No.

Autodesk cares nothing about Surveying... and never will.

With the advent of very powerful corei7 rugged tablets today, Carlson, Microsurvey, Leica, TDS, and other big names in data collection industry can develop civil 3D based data collection system.

Civil 3D is an open system with vast very mature API support. It is highly programmable to cut the story short.

I can't imagine the power it provides if you have civil 3D in the field utilized as your data collection system. Carlson has Carlson Field but an AutoCAD vanilla application.

Thank you for sharing guys.. 🙂

I dont really see how you consider Civil 3D as an open source technology?, the native dwg is proprietary and changes almost yearly. Points, objects, etc are all proprietary as well. Microsurvey and Carlson are both involved with their own software and while Carlson runs on acad, it really doesnt do anything with Civil 3D. I havent really looked at C3D in awhile, went with Carlson awhile back and am happy with that decision.

Much like LDD was use text files or FBK files for import. Any field data collector exports text files only need to set up line work we use Lieca and export a fbk file to run in C3D.

I don't mean an "open source" technology. What I mean is Civil3D's openness to the outside world. It provides not only rich but also very mature API support. It is highly programmable. If Carlson, for example, decides to to produce Carlson Field for Civil3D then it would definitely be a much powerful product compared to its AutoCAD Vanilla based sibling.
