I posted a question about what folks were using to carry prism poles on ATV's. Here's what I came up with... some semi-bendable gun racks from Cabelas mounted to my back ATV basket. It keeps the poles out of the operators way without having the poles stick out past the sides of the ATV.

Dave, used to carry mine similarily, until I stopped suddenly for a pedestrian (working a village) and my partner rear-ended me with his wheeler. Fortunately, just took out his headlights and didn't go any further! Strap my tripods across the rack now and have a piece of 2" pvc mounted vertically along the front fender. Working in heavy brush though, your setup is much better, nothing like coming to a sudden stop in the alders/willows when the tripod catches a tree on each side of the trail! 🙁

If it works, stick with it. We just got a Polaris Ranger and it's MUCH better than the 4 wheeler for carrying gear from poles to people to anything.

If you trade up, go side-by-side.

I have been looking at Rangers for the side by side aspect... I'm partial to the 400 or 500 hundred because of its smaller size. Which one did you go with and are you happy with it??

We got the 400 (actually 455cc) instead of the 500 due to the fact that the extra bells and whistles didn't really mean much to us. 10k after taxes and drive out.

Dang, I was just about to say the same exact thing, except rhino. I had a Honda 650 4 wheeler for a few years and traded to a rhino, much more enjoyable plus you can take a buddy or client in it. Bonus is that it helps with yardwork also...

About all you could do to make that safe for a 4 wheeler behind you is to install some type of quiver looking device at the tail end. Think bow and arrow. JRL

Kris

You may be able to get a deal on some Polaris UTV's soon. We had DOZENS on the beach for the oil spill cleanup. Beach work is winding down now so I'm sure there will be several put on the market. Bear in mind though that you may have to put some money into maintenance. A few months of sand and salt spray does them no good at all. Most were two seaters but we did have lots of six seaters also. I bought a propane heater made for golf cart cup holders to go on the one I had. It sure helped on those cold windy days.

One note about carrying on a rack on your ATV, truck or other mobile unit.

Keep a constant check on knobs and tightening screws and other twist in objects like prism and tribrac.

The vibration of moving along from place to place will loosen objects from their so called locked position.

I have also found out one can never have too many bungee cables or straps.

That looks great, especially when it makes your day go better.
