Anyone know if these are released yet?
It was supposed to be available mid November, but I'm not seeing it on any sites (Hayes, APE, or even much on Carlsonsw.com except for the original announcement). I'll give my local guy a call tomorrow.
I think I'll buy one, they're a much better option now that you don't have to have the Parani bluetooth dongle sticking out of it. They sure could use the bump in RAM, too.
I spoke with Allen precision about them, Donna George said they would have them mid February. I also talked to That Cad Girl dealer, they said about the same time frame. The long range Bluetooth is a plus but everything is made of plastic. They both said that the surveyor 2 would not be near a tough as the plus. I'm looking into getting the Geomax robot and I think I'll will go for the plus, the 2 is to new and will mostly likely have some bugs.

That sounds wrong to me, considering it's based on the Juniper systems Allegro 2 and it went up a rating from IP67 to IP68. There are some really high quality plastics these days...

salesmen...selling their current stock...if they had them, they would be the best thing since sliced bread.
Bingo!
Maybe, but from what I understand the plus has metal casing on the inside which cut down on the Bluetooth comunication distance and the new one has a plastic casing.
The plus was encased in magnesium, which is probably better in some respects - but I seriously doubt Juniper Systems and Carlson would go with plastic for a new model if it was the wrong move. Just saying there are some really high quality plastics these days. Several are stronger than steel. Some vehicle transmissions are even plastic, and outperform the ones from yesteryear...
I just hope it fits in your hands better then some of the DCs that have been coming out lately. You should be able to hold a DC firmly with one hand and hit the enter button with your thumb.
I don't know about you, but I can't remember the last time I bought a non-robotic instrument. We still hold them in our hands from time-to-time, but most of the time it is clamped to the rod these days.
The surveyor + was a freaking tank though, you can pound stakes in with that thing.
They're tough, that's for sure. I'll trade a certain amount of toughness, though, to not have to use an add-on dongle for lrbt. As long as they'll work in the rain and take being dropped occasionally.

According the the info on Carlson's site, the Surveyor2 has a magnesium housing.

This is a mis-quote from the Surveyor+ page that (I believe) has now been corrected. The Standard and Geo models have just started to ship and the Cell/GeoCell units should start shipping soon.
