I think that may have been my post you referred to.
When I noticed the DC clamp crushing my pole, I got a piece of copper plumbing pipe and slit it so it would slide onto the rod. I used a bit of exoxy to keep it in place. I've got at least 10 years on that rod with the copper piece hanging tough!

I found that after a while the pvc does become "spongy" where it contact the bipod.

Ahhh yes, the copper pipe reference jogged my memory!

Sounds like a sleeve is not unheard of, and worth the time and effort.

I've been pretty careful with rod #2 since rod #1 developed this crack.
Alas I think the wind blowing it over on the pavement with D.C. attached may
have done it this time.

I'll go the replacement tube route for now.
Then experiment with the cracked sections for reinforcement methods.

It helps me get up and here knowing I'm not alone in this murky mire called surveying!

Now, back to the battery door on the R10 issue! 🙂
