Hey,
Anyone else using Leica ICR70 with icon site sofware. Just switched from TS16/captivate into Icon. First frustrations are that Icon doesnt support 2 face measurements and measuring range to reflective tape is poor compared to captivate.
Some features are better on Icon like staking lines. You can pick lines on the fly from the map to be staked. In captivate you have to go backwards and pick a line, accept etc...
So anyone else using Icon site with ICR? Would like some feedback comparing to captivate or even smartworx.
We use the iCon software on Toughpads with the 60 series total stations at the construction company I work for.?ÿ I grew up on Geodimeter/Trimble so it was a bit of a change a year and half ago switching to this.?ÿ It's a great software for what it's intended to be used for and that's construction layout.?ÿ It's not made for surveyors doing control networks and boundaries that's for sure.?ÿ If it had features like traversing and multiple face measuring, it would be the ultimate software.?ÿ I love having the visuals.?ÿ I'm not real fond of the servo driven TS and passive tracking prism either.?ÿ This software (w/survey features), a mag-drive S-series Trimble and active tracking 360 prism would be my favorite setup.
I don't have any experience with Captivate or SmartWorx.
It has two face measurements now. Guess the new release is pretty darn good, but I haven't seen it yet.?ÿ?ÿ
ICON is perfect for construction layout. Captivate is made for a Surveyor doing a diverse range of things.?ÿ
Two face measurements is an add-on module that you can purchase for a few hundred dollars. The only thing l, that might be important depending on what you do, would be the lack of a traverse app.?ÿ?ÿ
Reflectorless measurements have to do with hardware (total station) only. The ICR has the same EDM that is in the green machines. The software shouldn't be the cause of any reflectorless issues.?ÿ

Sticker range issue could be that ICR70 has R500 laser while the TS16 i used had R1000.
ICR70 has hard time measuring past 50 meters to slightly angled sticker target.
Interesting that 2 face measurement is a paid for "add-on". We had a problem with Icon units on site that could have been spotted earlier at least if it had the facility to do 2-face measurements. The instrument was guiding a motor grader. The vertical collimation was out and when a resection was done to control at 200m spacings it set the instrument to the wrong height. Apparently the dealer had to?ÿ do the check and adjust despite there being many of us on site that could have done it.
My limited experience is that like SCS900 it's very dumbed down and makes doing anything "under the hood" very difficult. Had to change the coordinate system once. Again -it was phone call to the dealer, not intuitive.
I'm a Captivate user and I'm naively hopeful that they can give some improvements to it similar to iCon. For example I have been asking for a while to be able to change the line being staked from within the app (click on map).
Noticed that Icon distance measurement doesnt lock XY into place after measurement like captivate does. If you shoot on vertical facade and start rolling vertical axis up or down it should change only Z and lock XY into the surface that the distance was taken from. However X and Y changes also with Icon.
Wonder if its a bug or working as intended.
@gradsmeters
I believe there is a "standard" shot mode you can pick instead of being on "tracking". I don't have our collector in front of me to see for sure but I think if you click on the prism at the top, there is a measurement mode you can change.
Measurement mode has nothing to do with this issue.
Im talking about separate distance measurement and angle recording.
Normally with leica you can measure single distance, then roll horizontal/vertical drives for the correct angle and press store.
Handy when you want to measure building corners or rooftop edges with prismless. You can shoot distance a bit below and then roll crosshairs upwards to the edge and press store. However with icon XY starts to move when adjusting vertical drive.
