my new to me Trimmark 3 appears to be transmitting and connected to the base but will not connect to the rover.

R8-3's both on TTv.1 @9600 (the radio says TM3 @9600 but assume TTv.1 will cover) CMRx

When I start the rover, it finds the station index at 100% but won't connect. 'waiting for info from the base'

I am thinking antenna cable as I believe I have the set up correct and the trans is flashing on the radio ?? but it may be something I am overlooking

When the rover finds the index, does that mean it is receiving or a function of the controller?

I assume that just because the radio is flashing 'trans' that does not necessarily mean signal is leaving the antenna?

oof and thanks-

It could be a number of things but this is an obscure one. If your base does not have a correction to transmit, it will look like everything you describe. The lights make it look like the base is transmitting. Even while the rover is not receiving a correction. This can happen when you give the base the coordinates it is occupying but you haven't yet created a GNSS point ( a point with lat longs) for those coordinates. Once you have associated a gnss location with your coordinate base location, the base can calculate a correction and the rover will receive that correction. Again it could be something completely different and your base isn't transmitting or your rover isn't receiving, but the situation I described will make it appear the base is transmitting but the rover never receives a correction.

Interesting and thanks.

The point was a ‘here’ without any other calibration on a random set up in the yard. I will try set up on a control point

Did that here point have local coordinates associated with it? The lat long has to be associated with some other location I believe. Maybe it is possible that you could collect only lat long information on all of your roving points. I've never attempted to do that though. I've always used some type of underlying coordinate system whether it be assumed or state plane.

Is it possible that the correction being sent by the base is a coordinate correction that is calced by the base based on the lat longs and without known parameters of how to go from lat long to coordinate, no correction is ever sent by the base.

Call your base 40,000 80,000 1000 and associate a gnss position (here point) with that coordinate and I bet your base starts transmitting corrections.

Appreciate it and makes sense. No local coords associated. Will find out tomorrow.

Unfortunately still no connection.

I am able to set up the radio using the controller which leads me to believe that the data cable is working.

Can I test the antenna /cable by connecting to the internal radio without damaging the receiver?

Not sure what else to try before sending it back.

Have you connected the DC to your base/rover and checked the frequency matches the Trimark? Those can be managed on the devices with Trimbles Configuration Toolbox.

Turns out the issue was CRMx.

When I set the receivers to CRM+ I get corrections from the base however it will not broadcast L5 or galileo and only got 9 birds compared to 20 when using CRMx and the internal radios.

I will test the range and play with the settings some more tomorrow. I am glad I got it to work and a bit disappointed that I did not research the trimmark 3 limitations but it may still be ok. After all I built bridges with 8 satellites back in the day

Lessons learned and learning
