I figured something out this week.
Doing the calibration routine on the instrument stores values but it doesn't seem to use them, at least when using a controller with Access. Besides poking the the button on the instrument has an adverse effect on the results even after carefully aiming at the target. Doing the routine didn't seem to help the splits much on rounds.
I found in Access on the TSC2 the calibration routine. So I did the compensator calibration. Now the electronic bubble stays almost the same at 0, 90, 180 and 270 which it didn't after the onboard calibration.
Then I did the collimatiion and trunion calibrations. I got much better results (smaller corrections). Then I did the target lock calibration(pretty much automatic) and that is excellent too.
Then I connected the other TSC2 I have and the TCU to the instrument and they display the exact same corrections as if the first TSC2 pushed the results through to the instrument. The weird thing is when I go into the calibration routine on the instrument it displays the different worse calibration values as if there are two places it stores those values.
The splits after all this are now excellent, 0" and 1" with the occasional 2 on zeniths only.
I suggest only calibrating the instrument with the controller and do at least the compensator calibration every morning because it only takes 30" to do.
The instrument stores the collimation values. If you look at them via the small S6 screen the units are in GRADS. Chances are your units on the TSC2 or DMS so if you change that to GRADS they will be the same as you see on the S6 screen
Holy Grads, Batman you are right.
The conversion matches.
That never occurred to me. It's hard to read that little screen.
It is easier with the controller.
So now what are you going to blame those better results on? I've got an S6 too.
