You may want to do you homework really well as it concerns the Juniper Systems tablet sold by Carlson as the RT3.
It seems that there is some kind of defect in them that cause them to not power up. I had to send mine in for repair and since it is less than a year old it falls withing the warranty period, I HOPE. I also learned that others had been returned with the same problem. They have had it for over a week now and I have a loaner till mine is returned but have no clue when it will be returned.
I bought it because I wanted a larger screen and for that it is great. That big screen makes things a lot easier to see. BUT, another aggravating aspect is the Windows 10 operating system is not a stable platform and causes hiccups and erratic behavior. Every time there is an update there is the real possibility that something is gonna have a problem.
Suffice it to say that if I could make an even swap for a regular collector I would do it now. We pay far to much money for these things to happen to our equipment so choose wisely. If you want a tablet maybe consider the Leica one although you will have to dal with the Viva software.?ÿ
Thank you for your post. I run Carlson and Leica equipment. I have been keeping up with Carlson/Juniper data collectors. I run mostly Carlson Survey2 and Leica CS 20s .?ÿ
I am looking forward to windows 10 and Andiod for the reason that I can sycronise my data Collectors in real time with Amazons cloud storage. I can't do with with the Windows Mobile operating system. This means that all my crews data collectors will sync in real time. I think I can make it work with Windows 10, but I am scared to change after your post.?ÿ
Thanks?ÿ

I was notified earlier today that my very expensive RT3 Data Collector has been repaired and is on its way back to the shop and I should be able to pick it up sometime next week. I was told it had internal circuitry damage on the main board, I guess that it techno speak for a fried main board. ?ÿ
I also lost all the data that was on the collector. Now I tend to keep my data files pretty well organized and downloaded frequently but I did have about 10 jobs on it that I had some data that is gone like a fart in a hurricane. And I did have to redo all the field work for 1 job.
Being a solo guy (some folks would dispute that since my wife does all the money stuff) I take very good care of my equipment and have always treated others equipment like it was my own so suffice it to say that I am quite put out by a fried board on a $5000 collector and software that is less than a year old and was I think 1 month from being out of warranty.
We pay far too much money for our equipment for stuff like this to happen. It is (was) supposed to be a field worthy device and I gotta tell ya I regret the day I got it. I should have gotten a regular collector.?ÿ
Setup a cloud service on the new collector. I use google drive, its free. All my data copied to the cloud before I leave the field, and back to my office PC before I get there. Take advantage of the technology, don't let it take advantage if you. I think RT3 is same as Topcon FC5000, cost only $2000, software is $$.
Software and collector together was right at $5k maybe a bit more.
And I had actually been working on the cloud stuff the weekend before it died but I will finish it.?ÿ
