I am working in the field this week on a small topo project in northern WV, about 3 hrs from home. The project location is on top of a mountain and we have had snow and ice all week. Yesterday, while locating the center of a gravel road, I slipped on some snow covered ice and my head and backside hit the ground at the same time. It knocked me out for a few seconds but I got back up, shook it off and went back to work. My partner caught the GPS unit, so it's ok. I felt "foggy" all afternoon and this morning when I woke up, I was having symptoms of concussion so I went to the hospital to be checked out. Mild concussion but no bleeding. Back to work now. Be careful and watch out for hidden dangers.
[sarcasm]Dave, would you please stop getting sidetracked and hurry up. Boss needs that data[/sarcasm]
thank gawd your partner caught the gps unit!
JK, falling is one of my biggest concerns. I rarely do fall but SWMBO seems to do it with more frequency... be careful!
"thank gawd your partner caught the gps unit! "
Glad to see your coworker understands what is vital to the project.:-D
Sometimes we need little reminders like that proving we are not bulletproof. Humbling experiences.
I'll never forget a similar experience in the parking lot at work many years ago. One instant I'm walking to my car to go somewhere for lunch. What I assume was an instant later I was absolutely flat out on my back on the asphalt. There was no memory of slipping or falling, just up--splat down, no in-between.
I don't have any problem with falling it is the landing that is the problem. If I don't break any equipment on landing I figure everything is OK. I make sure I don't tell my wife she things I am clumsy and an old fool for being in the woods by myself.
Now strojanman, you know that its all about quality. Not speed. I think you'll be alright DLEE. You hit your head!!:-D
Any time you lose consciousness you should be heading to the Doctor.
I smacked my hand on a limb yesterday (swinging an axe trying to clear enough dead branches out of the way to get the pole on a brass cap). I initially focused on all of the flowing blood. I went into the Fire Station building (surveying its boundary) and got that cleaned up. A little 2mm hole made a huge mess. Later that evening my hand hurts. I look at it, big goose egg on it. Hurt a lot yesterday but it feels fine today, the goose egg is getting smaller.
Typical surveyor, I kept going, only a flesh wound, have to finish the job. I could've lopped my arm off with the axe, no excuse finish the job DAMMIT!
