Okay, it's not really in Lawton and I was helping our my good friend Phil (of Ashtech fame) but I did drive up from Lawton to help him out for a few days.

Here I go hunting a point that he had given me a coordinate on. My mission was to babysit a unit to process against OPUS to give him some reliance on his RTK readings on this point later with a new NTRIP RTK unit.

It was a bit chilly to start as I searched for the point.

He not only had me do this but left me with a very nice mapping unit to figure out. He have me a few cursory lessons on the menu's then he took off to occupy another point some 20 miles from me for another OPUS session..

And both would also be rolled up into his processing of the raw data.

So I got it started, and logged the times and made a sketch in the field book as I always do.

And I thought I would settle into a nice read of the book that I have been studying for a couple of years. But the mapping unit he left me with intrigued me.

I just mapped out the roads first. Just to get familiar with the unit.

Then I took off on the beach as Oklahoma started warming up. Nice views at Lake Thunderbird.

I wondered about mapping and having some fun and then I started finding these inscriptions on the rocks. Had a found some ancient writing from centuries past?

Well maybe not it seems. I don't think this was around a thousand years ago, but I could be wrong.

Well, lunch rolled around. I think about 9:30 am actually but I was a bit hungry. So more books and some actually pretty nice chicken sandwiches from Loves.

And then back to mapping out the shoreline and other stuff. Just a beautiful day even if it was a bit cool.

I mapped all the trails and such and even took a break to visit the Thunderbird Nature center. A wonderful place but it is winter and on a school day so the lady that was working it was totally lonely. Picture a park ranger with no one to talk to for days and you walk in.. LOL She was actually very fun.

And just another shot of the shoreline. No one around and I had it all to myself that day.

The next day was in Shawnee and maybe I'll post those pictures in the morning. At the coliseum.

Not digging up corners but back in the hunt for spatial references and mapping.
