Yesterday I spent a couple hours working with a client to survey his lake cabin. I have come to know this fellow in recent months as we see each other frequently at the same restaurant. He is the Chief of Police of a small city about 50 miles away and escapes to the lake every chance he gets.
After we were done we sat and chatted for awhile. I told him of having had a former sheriff work for me and of the stories he shared. Among these were one of my survey jobs where the clients had once called him to report their jail escapee son was hiding at their home. They wanted the son locked up again as he was in serious need of rehabilitation.
That story lead to several of the current client's stories about similar happenings including one this past week where he was going to release a young fellow and the parents asked him to lock him up for two days....so he did.
For some insane reason I then asked him if one of his own relatives hadn't been locked up maybe 10 years ago or so. He has a very uncommon last name and the only other time I had heard it was relative to that imprisonment. "Yes. That was my Dad. I helped see to it he got the longest incarceration possible. After he served the original sentence, he was only out a short time before he got caught again. The judge was going to let him off with probation but I talked him into sending him back for 90 days." It seems Dad had once owned a bank, then got hooked on drugs. He lost the bank and most everything else so got into the drug business to try and get both money and a source for his habit. The client said, "For some foolish reason, my mother remained married to him for 32 years. That was about 31 years and 6 months longer than she should have."
The recommended marriage length of about 6 months as suggested by your client would be good if he is about 31.5 to 32 years old. If not, he might not even exist.
