Hi,
I am working with an older automatic level (AL224), and have trouble getting the bubble on it to stay put when I rotate it 180 degrees. It doesn't shift outside of the circle, but usually to the edge. Wondering if the surveying experts out there can tell me if this is a problem with my level, the tripod, or perhaps not a problem at all?
Thanks!
Lora
Assuming the tripod is stable while you turn it and the level instrument isn't damaged, then it means the level bubble is out of adjustment.
Try adjusting the leveling screws to put the bubble halfway back to center.?ÿ Then rotate 180 degrees.?ÿ If the bubble stays in the same place with respect to the rest of the instrument, then it is truly level and is showing you how much the bubble is out of adjustment.?ÿ You can probably adjust the level bubble yourself by loosening some of the screws associated with it and tightening others until it stays in the center as you rotate.
Thanks Bill, I will try that!

Follow Bill's advice, then peg the level to make sure the "compensator" is working properly.
