As a subscription user of C3D I have been given the option to pay about 10% more per year in subscription cost and get a migration from C3D to Infrastucture Design Premium which includes C3D plus about 5 or 6 additional programs. The problem is I don't see where I would use any of the extras and I don't have any idea of how much they will go up on the yearly subscriptions in the future.

Does anyone have any experience with Infrastructure Design and does it have any benefit to the surveyor user?

"Dear Autodesk Subscription Customer,
As a follow-up to the previous email you received regarding the upcoming AutoCAD® Civil 3D upgrade offer to Autodesk® Infrastructure Design Suite Premium we wanted to make you aware that AutoCAD Civil 3D 2014 has been released. Under our current upgrade offer, you will not receive AutoCAD Civil 3D 2014 but will receive Infrastructure Design Suite 2014 Premium once available. At that time, you will be able to opt-out, if you choose.
We are providing this upgrade as a special opportunity for Autodesk® Subscription customers to experience the exciting new capabilities enabled by the Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite 2014 Premium edition, including workflows between Autodesk® Infraworks™ and AutoCAD Civil 3D software. As an already existing Subscription customer, if you upgrade, you will receive Infrastructure Design Suite 2014 Premium Subscription benefits, including access to the Bridge Module, the Geotechnical Module, and the Rail Layout Module. Subscription also includes increased cloud storage, and access to a broader set of Autodesk® 360 cloud services for analysis, rendering and collaboration.
Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite Premium with Autodesk Subscription includes:
? Autodesk® AutoCAD® Civil 3D®
? Autodesk® InfraWorks
? Autodesk® 3ds Max® Design
? Autodesk® AutoCAD®
? Autodesk® AutoCAD® Raster Design
? Autodesk® AutoCAD® Map 3D
? Autodesk® AutoCAD® Utility Design
? Autodesk® Navisworks® Simulate
? Autodesk® Revit® Structure
? Autodesk® Storm and Sanitary Analysis
? Autodesk® ReCap
? Autodesk® 360 cloud storage, analysis, rendering and collaboration services

Accept Offer
If you choose to accept the offer, there is no action required. As an AutoCAD Civil 3D customer with a current Subscription contract - as of March 28, 2013 - you will receive an email notification when your Infrastructure Design Suite Premium upgrade becomes available for download on Subscription Center. If you choose to accept this offer to upgrade from AutoCAD Civil 3D to Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite Premium, there will be an increase in the price of Subscription when it’s time to renew.
Decline Offer
This is a one-time special upgrade offer—that you may choose to decline. In the coming weeks, you will receive an email with specific information on how you can opt-out from this offer and continue to maintain an AutoCAD Civil 3D-only Subscription."

The way they are pushing these upgrades on us rubs me the wrong way.
Right or wrong, here is a letter I sent to the licensing department. I should hear back tomorrow.

"I just received a notice that if I did not act, that Autodesk was going to upgrade our Map 3D licenses to Infrastructure Design Suite Standard. This would involve an increased annual subscription cost.

The approach that Autodesk is taking (making customers opt out rather than opt in for additional expenses) is backwards to the typical vendor/client relationship.
We are paying Autodesk. We are instructing Autodesk as to what we want to purchase, not the other way around.

In the past, I accepted a “free” upgrade from plain Autocad to Autocad Map. Years went by and we felt that we were not using the Map functions. We requested to downgrade to plain Autocad.

Autodesk wanted $600 /seat to down grade back to plain Autocad (less powerful software). Autodesk had gotten us into a higher annual subscription cost and didn’t want to let go. I see a similar thing happening with this upgrade, only this time it isn’t an offer.

I am writing to request that Autodesk provide me with the specific language in the license agreement that allows Autodesk to automatically change the software package that we are buying as well as increasing our annual cost without our explicit consent."

From what I can tell, if you perform site design you will benefit the most from this new software.

The Raster Design software has features that a surveyor would benefit from.

Lots of problems with Autocad, we installed 2013 C3D then decided we wanted to stay with 2012 so backed up one release. No problem (we are on subscription for C3D) with that but we also upgraded two seats of Carlson Stand Alone to 2013 but now we need to go back to 2012 so everyone is one the same basic acad version but autocad (not carlson) wants to charge to let us reinstall to Carlson 2012.

You dont need to downgrade your carlson. Just set the default action to save the drawing to the 2010 format. I save all my drawings to 2007 format to keep consistency with other software I have.

We do that but still get messages about proxy objects and various other little aggravations that add up to too much trouble to bother with. I have a problem with having to pay to use something that I paid for once before then paid again to upgrade and now a downgrade fee.

> I have been given the option to pay about 10% more per year

And that, my friends, is Autodesk in a nutshell.

agree completely. Yes you will always have proxy objects dealing with c3d or autodesk.
