No, I don't think you've read what Keith has written for years very carefully, I'm afraid. He has consistently been wrong about virtually every one of the fundamentals. I've read nothing from him here that would correct that view.

I think that both of you could 'learn' something from each other...but then again, what do I know?

Well, I suppose that if I didn't think that land surveying mattered, I might regard this as some sort of gratuitous argument about esoterica. But it does and it isn't.

Well there you go - if you are finding kinks or gaps, then maybe it's not highly defensible in terms of representing the orginal footsteps of the surveyor.

But that's not what Keith is saying. He's saying gaps and kinks are defensible and that we are wrong to question them.

Sorry to resort to mere Wikipedia...

It does and it isn't...but one should never disrespect another's opinion...

If I didn't think it mattered, I would have left this post alone...

Well, I care less for politeness than what is accomplished at the end of the day. Opinions can in fact be disreputable. I've read more than a few from our over-the-hill colleagues for years now and have no particular yearning to pretend that they are something other than they are.

Well, this whole thread has been a waste of bandwidth as far as I'm concerned. Now if the Williams & Schaut Mapping Company ever opens its doors for business, then we'll have something to read about!

Is it ok if I step out for the evening with my honey and enjoy the evening, rather than read insults from those who can't or don't know any better?

There is a bottom line to this thread!

For some of you naysayers and some who don't have a clue of what you are commenting on, I challenge you to take the positive and come up with some actual reference material to support your opinions.

I do this for the benefit of some who have a lot to learn about land surveying and to those, I would think that your would also appreciate some reference material that you can review and make up your own minds.

It is easy to see that some simply want to challenge me and the Manual and where is there material?

I don't need the insults, but take them in light of providing some with some actual survey arguments that can be determined to be real or not.

You can make up your own minds about those who anonymously insult me with no supporting documentation...only insults.

Take a look at this thread and determine yourself if it is worth it or not and if you don't consider it worthwhile.....I will simply quit.

But, for your own good, and for your own expertise, think seriously about those who flipantly challenge my opinions and especially the written word in the Manual.

For Kent to post that he has seen nothing of value from me over the years on these boards is very telling on him.

Make up your own minds and read this thread with some idea of learning something and if you learn something from it, it makes it worthwhile for me.

This is land surveying 101 and if you can't see that, take a look at yourselves.

I was out for the evening and did not respond to all posts and you can see how serious they were....

Sincerely,

Keith

Just read the insults and think for yourselves

If you are interested in the land surveying profession, pay attention to those who only have insults and to some who are attempting to provide some useful information that is useful.

It is your surveying world, so try and make the best of it.

I did.

Think about it!

From Kent:

"Well, this whole thread has been a waste of bandwidth as far as I'm concerned. Now if the Williams & Schaut Mapping Company ever opens its doors for business, then we'll have something to read about."

And of course:

"No, I don't think you've read what Keith has written for years very carefully, I'm afraid. He has consistently been wrong about virtually every one of the fundamentals. I've read nothing from him here that would correct that view."

A real good spokesman for the surveying profession!

Think about it!

The next time you are looking through your instrument, like Kent does, and you see a monument that is a bit off your line, think of Kent and simply reject it. Don't think twice about it and think you are a land surveyor.
