Just now reading this article, the first three pages are about my home county, very interesting article about the local history. I live about 30-45 minutes from Post, OR.

That's a great article. It all makes sense to me.

In my great grandfathers history it's mentioned that he worked for a deputy surveyor for some time. Then it says he had his own chains and helped many settlers locate their lands. So I suppose he was a Locator.

It is a very informative article. I loved the reference to setting center 1/4's.
These guys, and the County Surveyors, sometimes the same guys, were the ones that set them.
However they set them, those are the original corners and people accepted them and relied on them.
As they should have.
And so should we if we can find or re-establish them.
Keith would agree; nothing bogus about it. : )
