It is not a big deal. I got 2 batteries with the unit 8 years ago and they had started lasting for shorter durations. Last year (maybe 2) I bought a new battery for about $75 so there is little savings involved. Recently battery # 1 seems to not want to take a charge. I saw one internet price of $65 which does not interset me.

Are there any real cheap recellers or has anyone taken one of these apart themselves? From the outside dimensions it appears to contain 5 1.2V Ni-MH cells.

There is a place called Battery World here. They do survey batteries (TS, GPS) or any batteries. They recently re-celled my Rollei MF camera batteries.
They are 2 guys who opened a Batteries Plus place years ago and decided to go off on their own. They now have 4 locations in Louisiana.
I think Batteries Plus is nation-wide.

I think Batteries Plus will do it...as Robert said.
We have found it is often not cost effective to recell batteries...

Sounds like you got a LONG life out of them.
