I predict that in the very near future, "Scanners are Us", er I mean, "POB" will be running an article on scanning the Washigton Monument for quake damage?
wouldn't you like to have....
A pre earthquake scan already in the can. I would have already scan the monument post earthquake and now be wtiting letters to sell my data.

Won't happen unless airboats and helicopters are used, preferably in a far off land. If it has anything to do with standard issues common to 90 percent of land surveyors it will never be newsworthy.

Who calling "far off" buddy, you must have meant "FAR OUT."
🙂

Sorry, Loyal
The first part was aimed at the Utah fiasco and the second part was aimed at all the stories from foreign countries. Although, come to think of it, Utah is a bit like a foreign land.........somewhere in the Middle East I suppose.
Digger
Well Utah DOES have the Jordan River, Mount Nebo, and a couple of hundred other middle eastern landmarks!!!!
I knew where you were coming from (and going), just rattling you chain a little.

Well, I do remember seeing an article quite a while back when finishing the last rehad of the monument, that they set a special metal bracket on the top and took a long static GPS session on the monument. Guess it is time for a re-observation!

The is a picture of Dave Doyle (with funny hard hat) placing the the choke-ring antenna on the point (it's somewhere on the NGS website).

From my vantage point in central Utah, foreign countries are Texas and California. Kansas OK, lived there for awhile, good people for sure (even SE Kansas great folks, chiggers and ticks I have no use for). Wonder how the wild turkeys are doing, soon gonna have em here, seen them about 10 miles north.
Even Texas and California has good folks, just some far out ideas in Kali and some Texans I just don't get.
How could you visit Logan and not like the place? As I remember we even give you a beer!

After the earth quake, the coordinate might need some tuning up. Dave will need to climb back up there!
A 4-foot crack on the west side near the pyramid top of the Washington Monument and other earthquake damage will keep the monument closed to the public for some time. (AP Photo/National Park Service)

What don't you get about Texans? Is it our outspoken independent nature? Surely not, since that describes every surveyor I know. :0

I really did enjoy my week in Utah in 1978. I will make it back someday. Promise.

Give me a couple years to get the house built and you may have free room and board at "Days Inn," our guest bedroom. I even got a pasture for your cow if you bring it along.

I did write "some" Texans.
