Never Seen Anything Like it...

It's a "Bostrom-Brady Improved Farm Level". Basically scrap metal is all it's good for. They're on eBay all the time.

I had an adjoiner on a survey once bring on e over to me for "show and tell".
He had used it for some light construction projects at his homestead.

He asked me for a value and I told him $25-75 dollars depending on the buyer.
I did not make an offer to him.

I think with the tripod that the CL ad is fair.
It is still a nice curiosity piece to someone.

Bostrom Brady Utility Level

They are fairly common. I see them every once in a while at farm estate auctions. I think a lot of folks used them to maintain the SCS contours on their pastures. Someone told me Sears-Roebuck use to carry these in their mail order catalogue.

Common or not, I've never seen one so complete with case, tripod and accessories. It is a good specimen for a collection.

That is a Bostrom-Brady No.2. I worked for them back in 75. We even ground the lens in the basement. 1 person could assemble 5 to 6 a day. They were very crude and were mostly being sold to third world countries at that time. In 75, I was just glad to have a job.
