I know we've discussed the definition of a "garage" in regards to a building style 6....?ÿ Heard from an insurance agent today that my form was "wrong" because I didn't detail the garage area.?ÿ When I explained FEMA only considers it a garage if it shares a wall with living space, she said that they had recently changed their software and now need garage level details for the enclosures.?ÿ
I'm not likely to go back out to get that data without some official word from FEMA.?ÿ anyone seen an update lately???ÿ?ÿ
Personally, I am a show me the facts ma'am kind of surveyor.
I'd suggest to have real estate lady provide link to that change.
Exactly.... I'm assuming it's an "in house" State Farm insurance software issue, not a FEMA issue.?ÿ ?ÿ
I agree. I wouldn't take any actions until the link to the FEMA changes is provided or email/call FEMA directly (they actusally very responsive) to veryfy it.
I personally never done it and never received any similar requests.?ÿ
The State Farm Insurance indication is a clue. I find most of the problems I have with insurance agents are ones?ÿ associated with State Farm. I had one tell me last week the building wasn't insurable because it was a 1A style building and FEMA won't offer insurance to "those type of home made structures" anymore.
I probably don't understand the question, which is usually for me.?ÿ If the garage is under the building, I would expect some detail is needed.?ÿ If the garage is separate, an addition form would be needed. If you have more data on your form, than blanks on their computer screen, they don't have a problem, even if they have the wrong data in each blank. But if they have a blank with no extra data from your form, then they consider you are wrong and give you call; in my experience.?ÿ
Building style 6 has always just been considered an enclosure.?ÿ NOT a garage.?ÿ even if part of it is used to store your car.?ÿ ?ÿ
Frankly, I didn't even know SF had started back into the housing insurance market here in Florida.?ÿ Years ago, they got out of it and wouldn't issue any new flood policies.?ÿ?ÿ

Tell them to obtain a clarification from FEMA. They will be on hold for so long they will give up and retract their original request.?ÿ ? ?ÿ
