Link doesn't work. Take out the 0A at the beginning and then it will.
Did you call him yet? 🙂

I sent him an email stating there is no way anyone will survey anything for only $100. I gave a general price range as to what it might cost and explained there are many variables involved in pricing the project. I also said if he is serious about it and has a copy of the deed, to contact me.

Here's my corrections:
I OWN 2 ARCES (Acres). I NEED IT A SURVAY (I need a survey) FOR IT PRIOR TO SPRING OR SO (I have no idea here). DON'T HAVE A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY, BUT I FEEL 100.00 OR SO MAY DO IT (I'll bet you do think that is fair). PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP ME OUT. IT HAS TO BE LEGITAMET (this one made me shake my head) DUE TO THE FACT I MAY SELL A 1/2 ACRE OR SO. (I wonder if there are any division/review/perc tests needed in this area)
THANKS (no, thank you for the chuckle)
:good: Excellent proofreading, Carl. 😉
I want a new pair of dress shoes that will last in excellent condition for 100 years. $15 sounds fair. Must be in my size and American-made.
Someone will do it for $75.
How can this illiterate person who can't afford more than $100 own a beautiful 2-acre lot with a house on it, is what I want to know.

That's how I got mine... 😛
But I can't split it.

I'll bet someone will do it for $100. The fact that he wants it to be legitimate is the sticking point. He'll get his survey (survay?), pay for it what he feels it's worth ($100), and then find out it's actually worth less than $0.
Caveat Emptor can be a little cruel to unsuspecting consumers at times, but sometimes a person goes out and seeks to get ripped off. And once he finds his $100 survey isn't sufficient for what he wants to do, he'll spend thousands on an attorney to sue the broke surveyor for negligence. Perhaps advice to those who might be tempted to work for this guy is in order.

One doesn't need to be stupid. They either have to be ignorant of what a surveyor actually does for them and/or they have only dealt with surveyors who either have a low estimation of their own value and who may also be stupid.
My uncle was a senior VP of a large midwest construction company. Most of you in MI would probably recognize the name or may have worked with them. He worked his way up from a carpenter's helper at the age of 17, through field superintendent on several large commercial and government site/building projects, and into ownership, finally retiring in his 70s, and still doing construction management for non-profits well into his 80s. My uncle is both quite intelligent and has been a very succesful businessman in both production and in the front office.
He hired and worked with or around surveyors his entire adult life, and yet when he paid $1900 to have his 3 acres surveyed back in 2007, he thought he had been robbed. He thought it was outrageous that the field party chief might have been making about $30/hr. After all, the surveyors he typically worked with only had to read plans that a real professional prepared, and if there were problems, either have the real professional (engineer) or the job super tell them how to resolve the problem. If a job super with little college background, working almost entirely off his work experience has to tell a "layout man" how to do his job, how can that "layout man" be seriously considered a professional or even a highly skilled technician. In his estimation, his property survey shouldn't have cost more than about $300.
If surveyors are projecting an image that they are no more intelligent or skilled than the guys mixing concrete or a carpenters helper, like some dirt septic pumpers operating some fancy transit thing, then the perceived value of a survey will continue to be $300 or $100 in many people's minds.

Well said. However, if I were posting an ad on Craigs List, I would at least check my spelling. "Survay" is not that complicated. I type better on a message board than this guy does on a full ad.
However, you point is well-taken and well-said. The only thing I would take slight exception with, is that a good construction-layout surveyor is worth more than $10 or should still be a bit above the value of a carpenter's helper; even in your uncles eyes I would hope. Surely he recognizes that the construction surveyor has to get it right and do it quick and at least has the math skills equal to or higher than a carpenter (and presumably more so than the carpenter's helper).

*Baps you!!* You are NOT stupid!! Ok, sometimes I wonder about you when you wear shorts in below zero weather but that doesn't constitute stupidity. 🙂

Dear Bob,
You WILL NOT get anyone to survey any property for only $100.00. It
probably will cost $1500 - $3000 depending on the topography, how the deed
is written, the existence of existing corner monuments, and their
accessibility.
If you are serious about having this done, and have a copy of your deed, you
may contact me at 205-956-7125.
