Why don't you just leave them, and put reference ties, nails in nearby trees, or corners of structures, and measure from the ties to the control points with a steel tape. This way if you find the control points move, you can always reset them from the reference ties, and nearby control points. Just make sure the reference ties are set so you have a good solid intersection point at the control point, and measure level.
