I posted this in "Events & Conferences" awhile back, but the word is not getting out very well. There is going to be an informal gathering of surveyors at the site of the Initial Point of the 6th P.M. on Saturday, June 11, 2011, to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the placement of the monument. Anyone is welcome to attend and share in the celebration. Bring your own food and drinks.
If you are especially from the states of COLORADO, WYOMING, or SOUTH DAKOTA, please share with other surveyors from your states. Surveyors from KANSAS and NEBRASKA should be aware by now. I've reached out to the state societies twice in CO, WY, and SD, but did not receive a response.
This is a remote area, but very accessible by vehicle since three county roads leading to the location.

If you need lodging, I would suggest Hebron and Fairbury, Nebraska or Belleville, Kansas, which are the closest cities of any size with motels.
This is a unique opportunity to meet surveyors from other states in an informal setting, grill some food, drink some beverages, and celebrate surveying.
Please share with surveyors who do not regularly check this site that might be interested.

I believe that Mahaska usually sends their overflow to Reynolds, Nebraska. 😉
