I had a 5603 with a red od raido and a TSCII data collector using TDS. I stil have the the TSCII tds data collector, but now I have a blue dot radio. I am pretty sure i do not have a cable issue, but I do not seem to be able to get the connection established between the data collector/ radio and the instrumnet thanks for your help

Dane, not positive but I don't think the older radios work with the new ones, I think you have to change the module on the robot.

5603 radio help update

It's not clear whether you replaced only the external radio, or the external and internal (the radio side cover). Can you clarify?

5603 radio help update

new to me instrument and radio. These items came as a package deal from EBAY, Same data collector was working with red dot radios. The new equipment has a blue dot radion. I am just wondering if there is an issue with my data collector or setup with the instrument.u

5603 radio help update

Can you operate the gun robotically using the faceplate, or is that when you get the INFO 49 message? In the latter case, it would seem to indicate that the radio link isn't working. That could mean that one or both of the radios isn't getting power, one or both is bad, or that they're not compatible (e.g. red dot side cover, blue dot brick).

If you have access to a working gun/radio pair, you could eliminate at least one of the possibilities by trying your equipment with the known operational equipment.

5603 radio help update

Here is what I have done so far.

Connected red dot radio to my data collector- radio not found

Connected blue dot radio to my data collector-radio not found

tried the above switching cables

connected blue dot radio to faceplate result info 49 GDM not found

connected red dot radio to faceplate result info 49 GDM not found

so absent any tips or tricks it seems that the radio unit inside the instrument and/or the blue dot brick is dead.

5603 radio help update

First of all you need to be sure that both the external radio matches the internal radio. If you started with an older radio (red light) then the internal radio has the same radio inside the instrument and should only be changed out by the service facility. Once that is done then the new radio (blue dot) should connect normally provided your cable is in good working order. The replacement cost in order to comply with FCC Regs will run between 3,600.00 - 4,200.00 depending on the shop you use.

Did you go through the Direct Connect set-up, where you connect the DC direcltly to the gun, to set the radio setting? it's been a long time since I had to set up a direct connect.

The blue dot radio is a 2.4GHz radio, the red dot is a UHF 400-something MHz. They will not work together.

You need to track down an older red radio and then have your service tech tune the rover radio and instrument to each other. Then do the direct connect and set up the channel. After that everything should work fine.

BTW, I've got a couple extra red radios if you're interested in buying one. 😉
