I have used TerraModel for the past . . . about 20 years.

I've got the old Field/Surveying module and Contour module.

Funny thing about the contour module, is that the data is 3D, but the program doesn't operate in true 3D.

My best . . . basically my years of surveying are behind me.

After suffering through the worse 5 years of my life, physically and suffering through all the medical issues and costs for the past five years, I've retired . . . it's more money, especially considering all the money lost in the past 5 years.

ANYWAY, I want to do a sort of "as-built", of my sailboat, with accurate measurements, both inside and outside.

Accurate enough that I know where the inside of the inner shell lies from the outer side of the hull, and accurate enough that I can do rough measurements for internal cabinets and such.

I have Intellicad 2001 and I've bought many copies of TurboCad(none of which EVER worked for one reason or another).

I don't think any of these do true 3D.

Where can a person find . . . REAL CHEAP . . . a relatively simple 3D program that a person can do simple translation and "play" with in a simulated 3D world?

SketchUp is awesome for 3D. There's a free version here:

http://www.sketchup.com/intl/en/download/#utm_campaign=mir&utm_source=yt_button

They have four basic tutorials to get you started, which will automatically come up when you start the program the first time.

I was an early adopter of AutoDESK 123D when it was in the trial version of 123D Catch.
I modeled my 69 Chevy SWB Pickup with it. It worked well considering the number of photos I took. I have modeled portions of my house and other structures. I suggest a high speed connection to upload the photos and to download the final product since it is done on the AutoDESK "cloud" servers. I used a simple Canon A530 5 mp digital camera.
