There is no such thing, but there is Hyper-V (virtual machine) in Windows 8 PRO. Most computers come with plain 8 but the Pro upgrade is a must have for this to work. Followed the instruction here, was not to hard.

Step 1

Step 2

Carlson 2008 and a few other old programs are working. Switching between XP and 8 programs is much smoother than the 7 XP Mode IMO. Not ready to throw out the old computer with straight XP yet, but its days are numbered.

Just out of curiosity, are you running Star*Net in XP Mode by any chance? The other question is does it have a Command Prompt from which you can run the DOS programs that you can in XP Pro?

Have not tried Star*Net, but bet it will work. Any program written for XP should. You install your Windows XP from a disk just like a new install into the Virtual machine. When your done it is Windows XP not XP Mode, very much like a dual boot machine, but easy to switch between them. The "Windows" key even became the old "Start" key again.
