Why does reversing the polyline, also change the origin of the polyline?

This is a point of frustration that I have had with Carlson, 2009, Embedded acad, ever since I have had it. IF I reverse a poly line, it also changes the point of origin. Is there something I am missing? Editing and setting the poly line origin, is buried several menus deep.

Anybody else get bugged by this?

Nate

I know only two reasons to reverse a polyline.

First to properly orient roadway stationing. A roadway being an open polyline, I want the origin to change.

The second reason is to change the deed description direction. A boundary is typically a closed polyline. The few times the origin is not where I want it, is not critical since it is so easy to move the lines in the resulting text file.

So NO! it doesn't bug me.

Isn't that the whole point? Switching the point of origin from the beginning to the end reverses the polyline definition.

You must be wanting to simply change the line type direction without changing the polyline definition?

I think you are simply frustrating yourself.

If you want the pline to run in a given direction, but need the linetype to display in the opposite direction, the solution may be to create a new linetype (copy and modify the other linetype to display the opposite way). This could be done in your .lin linetype file. Otherwise I think you're doomed to frustration as imaudigger said.

Reverse the polyline. Then execute the Set Polyline Origin command....
