Has anyone made the jump to Civil 3d 2022? Our firm is currently running 2019 and we are deciding on whether it's worth while to upgrade.?ÿ
Pros? Cons?
Our firm is Land Surveying only and mainly provides boundary and topographic surveys.. We do not use a lot of the features geared towards civil engineers which is why we've held off on the upgrade for so long.
No 2022 just yet, but I have been using C3d 2021 and have noticed no serious bugs. Backwards compatibility to 2018 is promised in 2022. My reason for upgrading from 2020 was support for Oregon's LDPs that was added to 2021.?ÿ
Nevertheless, as I've recently commented in some other threads, Carlson/IntelliCAD 2022 is looking really impressive. For a survey only firm I'd be hard pressed to justify sticking with C3d given that you can outright buy copies of Carlson for less than the annual subscription fee for C3d.?ÿ

I think I found a bug in C3d 2021 this morning. I was drawing a polyline by point range and C3d was drawing the polyline in reverse order of the point range I was inputting.

I've tested it on multiple machines, multiple drawings, after a reboot and all get the same result. I used commas instead of the hyphen and it works. I've even input the numbers in the order that C3d was drawing them and it still draws them in that order (as it should).
This is not the "direction" of the line. That's corrected with PEDIT. C3d is literally drawing the polyline in an order other than what is being input by the user. I've got a helpdesk ticket in with our local contact. We'll see what they say.?ÿ

Based on experience, +/-20 years of CAD, the even years are not the ones to upgrade to...too buggy. Just my $0.02.
I'm a renegade. I'm always in favor of upgrading as soon as it's available. The longer you put it off, the more pronounced the differences will be. I've had no issues with 2021. I would at least go to that instead of 2019.
Having said that, if you collaborate with other firms who use C3D, it's better to try to stay on a similar release, or at least one that is compatible.

Remember, you can always EXPORT to older versions. It's "better" than SAVEAS because it removes everything not used in the drawing and it removes the dynamic capabilities of blocks and such...basically it makes the drawing "dumb" so older versions can open it but yes, it's always good to stay present with what your clients are using.

Looking at release notes, I remember now that the survey database format was updated for 2020. To use existing survey databases with 2020 and later, you would have to convert the database with their migrate utility.
Would not hurt to look at release notes for 2021 and 2022 to see if anything else may apply to you.
Yes, I know you can export to earlier versions, but that should never be an option unless you're sharing with someone who isn't using C3D or is using an older version that isn't compatible.

I have verified that it does do that for me as well. I never draw lines by point numbers, but it's always good to know just so you're not caught by surprise.

No imported line work, manually drawing a polyline by point range.

I??ve found each version performs a little quicker and is a little easier to use than the previous year. So there??s no benefit to using a version for 2 or 3 or more years especially if Autodesk requires a subscription that gives you license access to the newest release?ÿ
