Trimble .fbk files and Carlson

So we got a new Trimble data collector. We've always used TDS in the past, and importing those .raw files into Carlson was a snap. The Trimble can export a .fbk file, a .job file, and a .csv file. The .job file is useless as far as I can tell. I imported the .fbk file using the FBK option in Carlson, processed it, and saved the points to a .crd. Total garbage. The .fbk file looks to have azimuth values from the gun to each sideshot rather than angle right, but Carlson thinks they're angles. Is there a way to have the DC use AR in the .fbk file? Or export a .raw file? (The manual for it is out of town)

TIA

RB

Roadburner,

Trimble user here (Access software), but no Carlson, so just a guess from my side.

Can you import the dc-format in Carlson? That's the Trimble ascii or raw format when you convert your job file.
You can make the dc on the controller: Jobs - Import/Export - Export fixed Formats files - Then choose the Trimble DC v10.0 format.

Or when you use Trimble Data transfer to download your jobs from the controller to the pc I guess you'll have somewhere a dc file.

Is this conventional data or GPS? It's been a few years since I've used Carlson but I think you can change the angle format from angle right to azimuth. You can download style sheets to export the data in different formats such as TDS .rw5 and SDR33; both of which Carlson will import.

I think that you need to set the data collector to BS zero and measure AR, then your FBK will contain such data.

Plenty of uses for job files. Look into a free Trimble utility called "ASCII File Generator".

Thanks folks for the insight. We've always used angles right with zero on the BS in the past, so I assume the tech did the same with this new DC. I'll confirm. Isn't change fun? 😉
