Her: Hi, this is (name) from (name) and I’d like to talk to you about upgrading to a newer version of AutoCAD.

Me: I have no intention of upgrading.

Her: We sent you several postcards explaining the program. Did you get them?

Me: Yes, I did, and I tossed them all.

Her: That’s great. Well, as you know, in 2015 your license expires and will then have no trade-in value.

Me: That’s fine with me because I have no intention of upgrading.

Her: Here’s what we can do for you.

(That’s when I hung up.)

I don’t think she heard a word I said.

I had one yesterday about websites and search engines. I tried interrupting a couple of times, but the guy spoke quickly. The voice was also so natural I did not realize it was a recording until the fellow said press one to speak to a real person.

Had one of those super-annoying calls today that starts out with a recorded voice saying, "Don't hang up. This is a very important call. Please wait and your call will be handled in the order in which it was made." Are there people out there so lonely and ignorant that they actually wait patiently to find out what is so incredibly important?

If the call was that important, someone would actually be on the line.

Other annoying calls come from people wanting to upgrade your Google listing.

I forgot the other call!

I forgot to tell you about the other call, and this one is apparently the real deal.

This (recorded) voice tells me I have been selected to receive a community service award. The committee checked carefully into my background and community service and voted 3 to 1 to approve my nomination. I'll be receiving details in the mail next week.

Wow, how neat is that. I'm betting there will be a minor charge, payable by credit card, for shipping and handling, and possibly an upgrade to gold plating, but that will certainly be worth it.

So, there all you sceptics.
