I don't have any Leica to try and connect to.
But the ToughPas is a Windows PC with i5 processor with 8Gb ram and 128SSD. So you connect to a PC, then the ToughPad will work.
I see these Roughed PC Tablets as the next generation data controller for surveyors.
I carry a 21in lcd monitor in my truck, along with cordless keyboard and mouse. I connect the tough pad and run like a desk in any project site trailer.

The ToughPad has Long Range Bluetooth. I have seen 900ft.
Most often I connect via bluetooth to Fantam with 915 Radio, that connects back to my gun.

I know this reply is 6 months after the post, but hopefully you will get it... I just ordered the FZ-M1 and I was wondering what pole clamp you are using with it for $50 - and, does it work well now that you have been using for some time?

That $50 spring clamp is crap. The ToughPad will fall out of it.
I created my own rugged plastic case with the RAM mount 1" ball attached to it. Then had it 3d printed from www.shapeways.com
Her is a link if you want to purchase. Just look to see which case you need. The FZ-M! purchased from Topcon dealers have a stupid RJ45 Ethernet jacket on them, that is useless. That in case #2 in the shapeways website.

I never really used the tablet I purchased as a field data collector. It was just too big. The clamp did not hold it as securely as I would like either.
Just got a Mesa, used. Beautiful instrument. I'm eager to use it, and see how it works with my equipment in the field.

I crossgraded one of my SurvCE licenses a couple of years ago to SurvPC. It was an extra license and I thought for $500 the license of SurvPC might present some benefit. Trouble was that I tried installing it on a Panasonic CF-U1 Toughbook running Windows 7 Pro. It did work, but the CF-U1 Tablet ran slow as molasses, and as a result, it just sat around collecting dust, while I did my surveying work with a Juniper Mesa or Surveyor+. I've been hearing quite a bit about the MS Surface and Surface Pro, and so I started taking a look at these tablets and other consumer grade tablets that have flooded the market recently. As an experiment, I ended up purchasing an inexpensive tablet made by HP called the Envy 8 Note. Measured diagonally, the screen on the Note is 8". It runs Windows 10, and is a quick lightweight and capable tablet, with bluetooth, wifi, LTE4G (Verizon only), GPS, GLONASS, included stylus, 2GB RAM, 32GB hard drive, Micro SD card slot, 5MP rear camera, and 2MP front camera to mention just a few of its features (I am not in any way affiliated with HP). It can run Dropbox, Chrome, AutoCAD, and as far as I know any other Windows 10 capable software. It runs like a desktop. In my opinion, it and other tablets like it can do a heck of alot more than Windows Mobile based devices.
Like you I run a Sokkia SRX3 in the field, and like you, I had trouble scaling the SurvPC interface to fit the screen of my tablet. Maybe you've got it worked out since. For me, I found the solution in Carlson's Knowledge Base. See link below. By checking the box for "disable scaling", the SurvPC interface now correctly fits my screen. I've still got to do some tweaking, I think, because the font size is still too small, but it appears completely useable.

This evening, I connected the tablet to my SRX3, and I had no problems making the connection and controlling the instrument from the tablet. In the coming days, I will see how the tablet works with my Hiper Pro receivers. Hope this is of some help to you and/or others. Best of luck.
