Does anyone know where to send a TDS Recon Pocket PC for repair?

While working in the rain today, the screen froze up and went blank with just vertical stripes. I have dried it out and have been charging it, but so far no luck. I have a backup data collector, but I hate having to redo work.:-(

I'd get in touch with Trimble's Regional Service Center in Dayton Ohio.

Well... I do have some good news. It finally did reboot after about 5 hours of charging. I'm not sure if that was the problem, because I had charged it the night before and had only used it for 4 hours at most before it crashed. But anyway, I was able to retrieve my lost data. However the touch screen is not working. I'll let it sit for a little longer to see if it improves. Now if it does, do I trust it?

Bow Tie

Have had the same problem in the past. Turn the unit on, pull the battery off the back, and then side it back on. This will cause a hard reset. Has fixed my screen several times.

Yeah, I tried that for a few hours. After about 5 hours on charge, it was finally able to do a hard reset. I have got the Recon running again. I upgraded it to the latest firmware version, so, I hope that does the trick. The crash happened when I was working in the rain. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it or not. I did a test run in my back yard and it appears to be working OK. I am taking it out on a real job tomorrow, but I am taking an old Husky FS2 as backup. I am still learning all of the quirks of the TDS Recon and I think I need a backup battery for it.

Bow Tie,

The backup battery is a good idea. My buddy was working on a job for me about 4 hours from home. It was a long day, and not long after he had started using his Nomad. He was about 30 minutes from finishing, and had to call it a day because it was getting dark, and the data collector battery was dead. Hard to run a robot without a data collector.

He bought the backup battery adapter that takes the AA batteries, and it has saved the day on more than one occassion. I think his was about $140 from Hayes.

My old Ranger 200T did something very similar last week. My Ranger 500X battery was getting low, and I was going to upload the job file into the 200T and keep rolling, but my battery was dead, and the screen was doing something like what you describe. I charged the battery, and it works like a champ.

Jimmy
