Seems a bit much!
Our warranty expired at the end of August so I haven't checked it out but that does seem to be a bit much.
Downloaded it yesterday and a week or so ago it was a 250mb update for CSM.
I think what happens is that Trimble does not issue patches for updates, but gives you a complete new program anytime they make any change.
In some respects it's a better way to do it, but you'd better have a good connection to do the updates. And Lord help you if you're on dial up.

Can v2.80 be installed (and still work!) over v2.70 without an upgrade/subscription/warranty fee? I don't see anything in v2.70 Help|About that indicates an expiration date, but I don't want to download and install v2.80 only to find out that my licensed features aren't available.
Edit: Whoops! It's in Help|About|License. I'm still under warranty so I guess I'll choke down the update.

The update is 453MB, but the full install is 1.57GB.
Jim, I see that you're still under warranty, so you don't have to worry about it.
For future reference, if you install an update that has a build date that is after your warranty expiration date, the licensed features will not be available to you.
I stand corrected
But that is crazy. 453mb for a full program seems ridiculous, but 1.57gb is over the top. I don't know how you manage something of that magnitude.
I stand corrected
The update was about a 10-minute download for me. If I didn't have a reasonably fast Internet connection, I guess I'd find someone who does (e.g., a friend, or maybe my Trimble dealer) to do the download and burn it to a CD.
It includes a new user interface (along with the old style). I would guess this accounts for the size.
I went from v2.5, downloaded the entire 2.8 file and installed it this afternoon. Pretty striaght forward amd it kept all my default setting templates.
