Has anyone used the ESRI Survey Analyst extension? I am wondering if it works well for updating and editing networks.
Never used it, but i know that Esri Traverse data files use coordinates, not point numbers, for start and end of traverse, and use bearing and distance, not HC, VC, SD for traverse legs. I may be missing out on something, but it seems rather restrictive.
I watched a presentation at a LSAW meeting. It looked very robust....
ESRI is powerful software and is only getting better.
One feature that I especially liked, was the ability to display a record distance and measured line at the same time; Or 2 disputing measurements. It would also allowed a lot more control over rubber sheeting.

I used it a bit in a GIS for Surveyors course. I believe it was primarily developed to maintain Casdatral Fabric. The Cadastral Fabric layer in GIS is used to maintain accurate boundary lines. Survey Analyst will allow multiple survey ties and coordinates for a single corner. Then a least squares is used to compute the most likely corner position. It has all the math functions but it was developed by non surveyors so at first it seems sort of strange (different language). It's real powerful and will probably be the basis for the cadastral layer in GIS.
So if you are getting into GIS and want to create and maintain a cadastral layer that will be updated continuously by multiple survey ties to corners Survey Analyst is probably in your future.
