Carlson Survey 2013 allows the creation of coordinated files with a .crdb extension that allow longer descriptions. I don't need this often but it would be handy when adding several jog codes to a building corner or similar situation.

Does anybody know how to make SurvCE 3.03 recognize these files? In top of the screen in SurvCE where you select/create a job file there's a field for type that shows CRD and has a drop down list but CRD is the only choice. If I manually type in the file name with the crdb extension for a job I've already uploaded into the DC it creates a new file with no points rather than loading my existing file. What am I missing here?

I can't answer your question, but I do have one:

How do you created the *.crdb? Do you just add the "b" in the file extension when creating a new coordinate file? Are those files conflicting between *.crd and *.crdb; And lastly, the program does not do any funny stuff that a guy should be aware when matching those different types of files?

You can set Carlson to create them by default by changing the setting under Carlson Configure, General Settings, Coordinate File Format on the upper right side of the window. In Carlson 2013 there's a quirk where it won't automatically use the .crdb extension but if you manually add the extension when you create the point file it seems to honor it and use the correct db format. You can also go to Points, Coordinate File Utilities, Convert CRD File Format and it will tell you what format the current coordinate file is in. Selecting one of the other file types will automatically convert the file to the new format and change the file extension. If you don't want to convert the current file, you can create a new file of the format desired and then use the Update CRD file from Drawing option under Point Utilities to populate the new file.

I haven't run into any funny stuff other than the quirk mentioned above but my testing has been limited by my inability to get it working in the DC.

The folks at Carlson told me that the Alphanumeric file type was the correct one for the longer descriptions. There's no way, that I know of, to get SurvCE to recognize the *.crdb files. The longer descriptions was the primary reason that I upgraded to version 3.x, which has been very buggy to me.
The first time I called support about the file type for the longer descriptions, I was also told to set the default to the *.crdb type in Civil Suite 2014, but I couldn't open it in SurvCE 3.03.
