First, it is my understanding that Autodesk went to the subscription model for their software. Oh well.

My boss asked me to check into pricing and such for Autocad Light. We do not need nor have use for the full version.

Should I look at local dealers, or is there some outfit that someone here can recommend?

Go to the Autocad website and you can subscribe there. It's about $50 a month very cheap for LT.

To be honest the subscription model suits us as we use Carlson Survey everyday but only occasionally need the full version. Wouldn't like to have to pay for it all the time though.

And we have what is likely a winner!

Thank you, I hadn't looked that far to realize one could rent Autocad from Autodesk. I will look further to find the download as well.

For less than a year's worth of renting AutoCAD LT ($550) you can buy a full unlimited never-expires licensed copy of BricsCAD Classic, which is an AutoCAD replacement. It's much more fully-featured than AcadLT, and with a user interface that's nearly identical with AutoCAD. Same commands, superior LISP support, and rock-solid. Highly recommended.
