Will SMI Transfer Version 7 run on Windows 7?
I can't get it to communicate with my HP 48.
Before you try to communicate install SMI in an SMI directory on the C drive, not in the program files folder. Put your data folder as a sub to the SMI folder. Also make sure that Windows knows to ?ÿuse SMI to open and read data.asc and data.raw files.
Yes to your first question, but how are you trying to communicate?
The easiest way is to have a computer with an actual physical com1 port.
If you are using an usb to?ÿcom1 connector, I have seen some connectors work and others that do not. So you buy different brands until you have success. A connector that works with computer A may not work with computer B. Most are poorly cloned generic devices.

Use a serial null modem cable.
?ÿ
YES, it will work.
To find out I installed SMI V7 Transfer on my Dell Optiplex 990 running Windows 7 Pro 64.
Use null modem cable.
Search for port. Do not try to send a file, follow the directions on screen to find port. The two are different set of commands.
It acknowledged it is connected to my HP48GX wSMI v7.
I was able to load a file into the HP48GX wSMI v7.
I was able to download a file from the HP48GX wSMI v7 to the computer.
When downloading to computer remember to choose files to download and choose the correct directory.
Choose between, to replace, merge or other choices for destination file to come out as you want.
I will answer questions if you need some assistance.
I have not tried any USB cables before, so my info is "dated".
A USB to Serial null modem cable does exist.
good luck
If you have a Best Buy nearby, they have a serial to usb adapter that works great.?ÿ It is about 21 bucks and it has the software built into the adapter and installs flawlessly.?ÿ I have almost the same computer.?ÿ Good luck.
