Do you all use, or would you consider using, a remote contract company for your CAD drafting? A friend is considering taking a course on AutoCAD drafting as a work-from-home career option and asked me if surveyors would hire her for that work. She found a lot of job postings online for engineering and architectural firms for that sort of thing, but nothing specific to surveying.
I prefer to keep all drafting in house. I have, in the past, tried outsourcing some of it but found it too hard to manage without inhouse control.
I think it depends on the type of survey. For a topo I think that would be pretty easy to farm out, but a boundary survey would be a different animal due to the amount of nuance involved.
We use a couple of remote drafters. However, they are all within 1hr of the office, they all worked for local OLS shops prior, and we are very familiar with their work. They were not random hires off the internet in other words.
