Trying to install Pacsoft 99-1.8 stand alone version on Windows 7 Pro.
I have the file PATCH99-18.exe and I have several serial numbers.
For some reason when I get the the part where it asks me to specify the install folder, it says "CMASTER was not found at this location".
Chris M....? Any ideas?

I didn't know Pacsoft was still in existence. I used it back in the 80's on an HP computer runing Rocky Mountain Basic. It was a great number cruncher.
Got some old data I need to retrieve...
The name of the file and Windows reaction tells me it is just a patch to install over an existing installation. Either install from your PacSoft directory or you are going to have to tell windows the path for the existing installation.
If what you have is a full installation package, you can always install to a virtual machine running something old and then copy the entire directory that it was installed into say D:PacSoft*.* into your regular machine. The old software didn't spread itself everywhere like the more modern ones do. At that point it becomes a short cut issue.
MapMaster will not work, but, much of CivilMaster does. I don't know anything regarding different versions as this is setup for the seats I purchased a million years ago. The date on the main executable is 2-10-1997 (HTBWRUN.EXE)
Hope some of this helps

I never could get the 1.8 patch to load on the new OS platforms. As such, I stayed at the 99-1.4 I think. Whatever I put on dropbox for you. Sorry bud. However, you have the full version now. 🙂

MapMaster works just fine if you use XP mode. Just never could get the 1.8 patch to load properly. My dad still calcs and drafts in PacSoft to this day. Plats roll out just like before.

I never pushed it as I never did like their drafting.
So Chris tried installing the full windows version (from your drop box page) and it installs fine until I get to where it is asking me for the path to Autocad 2000i (which I don't have).
My brain must be jello.
Never mind - I bet I have to do a custom install...Yup!
Have you been able to get the rain map routine to work...It's greyed out.
I forget if there is a particular file it needs.
I know it is weird about not having a profile in the project.
@imaudigger You got it. Do the custom install and don't sweat the AutoCAD. It will put in the Map Master for you.
I never used rain map so I don't know. It does profile just fine without it. I never used it for civil work, other than topo, so I can't speak to all functions.
The rain map tool was very handy for identifying areas subject to focused potential erosion.
Carlson does not have anything similar and their hydro module was next to useless when I tested it out awhile back.
My issues with getting PacSoft to run on XP turned out to be because of the domain restrictions on user paths. I spent a while trying to get XP to allow user temp files into a directory it was protecting to no avail. I also got to read some other attempts by others to do the same thing, some successful, some not. Finally, in a lucid moment, it occurred to me it is easier to fool a file than proceed down a dead end. I used a hexadecimal editor to delete the path searching for the parallel key in the start file and it works fine now. Since PacSoft is no longer in business and I purchased their keys to begin with, I think it was reasonable
I had Pacsoft working in windows xp home but could never get it to work in xp pro. Don't use that computer much anymore but I do miss the surface modeling. Never tried to get it to work on windows 7, didn't know it was possible
Has anybody had luck with version 99-1.8 with Win 7 Pro? I've tried the instructions above with no luck.
My XP computer is on its last legs. Any thoughts? Is it only the 99-1.4 version that works? (Hopefully not I don't have that version)
Jason, I have 99-1.3 installed on Win 7 Pro, and it mostly works...no problems with the cogo / TIN routines.I don't use it very often.
Mine is even older, 98-2.3 on Win 7 Pro 64, same .. mostly works, but, I just use cogo
I think my issues with certain functions not working has to do with the dongle or lack of dongle.
I have several dongles that provided different levels of functionality...currently operating with dongle patch.
The dongles for our PacSoft are sitting in drawers as they just ceased working with time not windows versions. I had always thought, prior to that, that dongles didn't die. They proved me wrong
I was showing one of the techs how I make sketches in PacSoft and he said he had never seen it done that way.?ÿ He said all he has seen is people taking the points into a CAD package and making their sketches there.?ÿ I will post this here in case this is something that people may like to use.?ÿ
- I use the tools in PacSoft to make the sketches that I want, such as road cl's, plat sketches and such forth.?ÿ
- I draw them on screen the way I want to see them and then hit "shift - print screen" to copy to the clipboard.?ÿ
- Once it is in the clipboard, I open Photoshop and file new as it will automatically size to the clipboard and then paste it into the new drawing.?ÿ
- Use the crop tool to limit the drawing to what is needed as I use multiple monitors
- Use the magic wand set at a tolerance of 50 with contiguous off, click the black and then hit delete
- Then "select - inverse" and zoom in with the pain bucket and change all colors to black.
- Window around the PacSoft information windows that got caught in the cartoon and delete
- This will give you a black line drawing with point numbers as seen in PacSoft.?ÿ Now you can use the Photoshop tools to add text and make point numbers that overlap each other clear and you are done
Sample site cartoon
I made similar drawings with Carlson Surveyor1 with DOS and Win95 and Win98 on dot matrix printers, before Windows upgraded to faster transfer speeds.
The modern data stream blows past the programming so fast it never knows that the print command arrived.
There is a way for it to work with changing the data speed for each printing, that however is nonsense to do because the modern Carlson product does it all so simply.
I don't agree with you.?ÿ PacSoft is still a wonderful cogo tool and do not think for a second that I say that without being very well versed in many forms of CAD and I do a lot of 3D work as well.?ÿ It does still have its place as a fast cogo tool.?ÿ The people doing the drafting don't have access or eew want to even learn it so they can't screw with your calcs either.?ÿ Are there projects it is a poor choice for, of course. The above is just a capture of a few minutes of calcs and was never intended to be a final product.
My history with PacSoft was fully immersive though as I was also drawing my Washington stamp complete with George on it on drawings with PacSoft 33 years ago.?ÿ I haven't drafted with PacSoft since I got CAD though as the command line changes were laborious.?ÿ
